836M will host an intimate program of a cappella works by internationally acclaimed Iranian vocalists Mahsa and Marjan Vahdat. Currently based in Northern California, the sisters are known for their original settings of timeless classical and contemporary Iranian poetry, as well as their own original songs. For their program on November 13, they will sing songs with verse by Hafez, Mohammad Ebrahim Jafari, Forough Farrokhzad, Rumi and many more.

The Center for the Art of Translation (CAT) is a San Francisco-based nonprofit that champions literary translation and the translators who bring underrepresented global writers to English-language readers. CAT builds a vibrant cross-cultural community through its award-winning publisher Two Lines Press, dynamic events that connect readers and translators, and the educational program Poetry Inside Out, which brings poetry translation into classrooms.

836M is excited to partner with the Kronos Performing Arts Association for a series of three Creative Labs. During each session, the Kronos Quartet will invite special guests, discuss upcoming projects, rehearse, and experiment with new artistic ideas.
For 50 years, San Francisco’s Kronos Quartet has reimagined what the string quartet experience can be. One of the most celebrated and influential groups of our era, Kronos has given thousands of concerts worldwide, released more than 70 recordings, and collaborated with many of the world’s most accomplished composers and performers across many genres. Kronos has received more than 40 awards, including three Grammys and the Polar Music, Avery Fisher, and Edison Klassiek Oeuvre Prizes.
