An autodidact, Tania Mouraud began her artistic career very young with Initiation rooms, spaces dedicated to introspection. 

At the end of the sixties, Tania Mouraud’s work questioned the relationship between art and social ties using different mediums: painting, installation, photography, sound, video, performance, etc. In the 1970s, through an analytical and intellectual approach, Tania Mouraud combined art and philosophy in work based primarily on words and later on their typography, adding meaning. During the same period, she continued to grow her series of photographs. 

Since 1979, standing on a thin line between the readable and the unreadable, her Wallpaintings have brought her elongated writing to an architectural scale, which now requires special attention to be read and understood. Her graphic calligraphies combine various media, as is the case with her photographic series, videos, and performances. 

In the late 1990s, her use of computer programming for the exhibition Alea 718 already indicated her will to emancipate from pictorial canons, which she also signified with the burning of all her paintings in 1968. 

In 2015 she debuted her retrospective, the first major monographic exhibition of her work shown at the Centre Pompidou-Metz. 

Through this absolute negation and rejection of the impossible alternative offered by a patriarchal and consumerist society, Tania Mouraud expressed her intention to take a different look at the world. Her desire to create outside the conventional framework manifests throughout her entire work.
