ELLEN LITWILLER

Ellen Litwiller approaches her art with a scientific narrative by observing and appreciating the world and our universe. After graduating from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Litwiller returned to the Bay Area to work in the Natural History Museum exhibit industry as a muralist, illustrator, model maker, and exhibit preparator.

Her work is in several museum collections. She has painted murals for the Smithsonian museums in Washington DC, Chicago’s Field Museum, the Papalote Museo del Niño in Mexico, and the California Academy of Sciences, among others. She’s a founding member of the Fortnight Collective based in San Rafael and continues to work freelance for the museum industry, she is an illustrator and shows her paintings throughout the Bay Area. Working closely with scientists has shown Ellen that the passion and commitment of artists and scientists are closely linked. Both worlds are based on a curiosity for observing and appreciating the world and universe we live in.
