SMITH, or Bogdan Chthulu Smith2, having used the pseudonym Dorothee Smith was born in Paris. They are a photographer, movie maker, and plastic artist. SMITH graduated with a master’s in philosophy from the Sorbonne. In 2011, SMITH joined the Galerie Filles du Calvaire in Paris.

In 2015, after graduating from the Ecole National Superieure de la photographie d’ Arles, and earning a diploma from the studio national des arts contemporains -Le Fresnoy, SMITH began their dissertation for a Ph.D. in Arts Studies at the University of Quebec in Montreal. Their new project, Desideration, was conceived with astrophysicist Jean-Philippe Uzan and proposed inoculating meteorites to absorb infinity and provide the human organism with a cosmic dimension. The project is presented in various forms (conferences, performances, photos, movies, text). The first performance occurred at the College de France. In 2018, SMITH was “godfather” to the Queer Week in Paris and dancer and choreographer Francois Chaignaud on the theme of “Deviations/Utopies.”

Their work has been the focus of personal exhibits (Rencontres d’Arles, Musee finlandais de la photographie, le Chateau d’eau), collective shows (Palais de Tokyo, Casino of Luxembourg), and monographic projections. The artist explores the possibility of “other” identities, transgender people, offering to go beyond the logical dead-ends tied to gender categories, whether driven by individualism, art, or theory.
